A small but determined team of Cookridge trekkers set out on their trek to Peru on 26th August 2006. Without exception, they all thoroughly enjoyed the experience which each described as 'breathtaking'.
Their journey to Machu Picchu was in their own words 'the trip of a lifetime, unforgettable, mystical, spectacular scenery, incredibly beautiful and so peaceful.'
The team trained very hard throughout the year to reach the required fitness levels in the knowledge that the altitude was always going to be a hazard for all. They reached their destination on the fifth day and together witnessed the sheer beauty and grandeur of the preserved Inca civilisation.
Following the celebration evening in Cusco and the long haul back to Heathrow via Madrid they reached home safely on 4th September after an unforgettable journey.
Between them they raised over £30,000 for Cookridge Cancer Centre.

China - this ancient land, immersed in history, mythology and ancient traditions, home to the largest population on earth, played host to our 'A' team! On 25th September 2004, a team of twelve Cookridge Hospital supporters - including five members of staff - set off on what was to be a most spectacular adventure. The Trek to the Great Wall of China had been planned over a year in advance. The team that had trained together and raised funds together for months on end finally reached the finish line on 4th October, exhausted, elated and understandably, very proud of their achievement.
Their fabulous journey can be traced in the picture gallery. Without exception each member of the team said they wanted to do it again! The result of their labours and outstanding teamwork is a great boost to the Cookridge Cancer Centre Appeal Fund - £36,000 was raised towards medical equipment for hospital patients. We are enormously grateful for all their hard work in reaching (and often exceeding) their income target and in completing the demanding course in China.
