Find out moreIan Wray 'Denali' Expedition
During May and June 2007, Ian Wray and two mountaineering friends will attempt the arduous climb to 'Denali' - Mt.McKinley in Alaska. 'Denali', meaning 'The Big One' at 20,320 ft is the highest mountain on the North American continent. Less than 50% of those who attempt the climb reach the summit. From the mountain base they will begin to climb the 15 miles and 4000 vertical meters of snow, ice and rock to the mountain's summit. This will take up to three weeks as they acclimatise to the altitude and shuttle the 200 kilos of supplies and equipment between the six camps which they will make on route. They can expect temperatures of -40° or below. Colder than those experienced on Mount Everest!
The costs of mounting the expedition will be met fully met by its three members, so 100% of your donations in support of Ian's efforts will go directly to Cookridge Cancer Centre.
Ian and his team are fully committed to this truly challenging project, both in the preparation and training they will undergo and in the effort they will make during the climb itself.
